“This day will
serve as a memorial for you, and you must celebrate it as a festival to
Jehovah.” ---EX. 12:14
(1 Corinthians 5:7) Clear away the old leaven so that you may be a new batch, inasmuch as
you are free from ferment. For, indeed, Christ our Passover lamb has been
sacrificed.
Paragraph 4
(Exodus 1:11)
So they appointed chiefs of forced labor over them to oppress them with hard
labor, and they built storage cities for Phar′aoh, namely, Pi′thom and
Ra·am′ses.
(Exodus 3:9, 10) Now look! The outcry of the people of Israel has reached me, and I have
seen also the harsh way that the Egyptians are oppressing them. 10 Now
come, I will send you to Phar′aoh, and you will bring my people the Israelites
out of Egypt.”
(Exodus 5:1, 2)
Afterward, Moses and Aaron went in and said to Phar′aoh: “This is what Jehovah
the God of Israel says, ‘Send my people away so that they may celebrate a
festival to me in the wilderness.’” 2 But Phar′aoh said:
“Who is Jehovah, that I should obey his voice to send Israel away? I
do not know Jehovah at all, and what is more, I will not send Israel away.”
(Exodus 11:1, 5) Then Jehovah said to Moses: “One more plague I am going to bring upon Phar′aoh
and Egypt.
After that he will send you away from here. When he does send you away, he will
literally drive you out of here. 5 And
every firstborn in the land of Egypt will die, from the firstborn of Phar′aoh who is
sitting on his throne to the firstborn of the slave girl who is working
at the hand mill, and every firstborn of the livestock.
Paragraph 5
(Exodus 12:3-7)
Speak to the entire assembly of Israel,
saying, ‘On the tenth day of this month, they should each take for themselves a
sheep for their father’s house, a sheep to a house. 4 But
if the household is too small for the sheep, they and their nearest neighbor
should share it between themselves in their house according to the number of
people. When making the calculation, determine how much of the sheep each one
will eat. 5 Your sheep should be a sound, one-year-old
male. You may choose from the young rams or from the goats. 6 You
must care for it until the 14th day of this month, and the whole congregation
of the assembly of Israel
must slaughter it at twilight. 7 They must take some of
the blood and splash it on the two doorposts and the upper part of the doorway
of the houses in which they eat it.
(Exodus 12:22, 23) Then you must dip a bunch of hyssop into the blood that is in a basin
and strike the upper part of the doorway and the two doorposts with the blood;
and none of you should go out of the entrance of his house until morning.
23 Then when Jehovah passes through to plague the
Egyptians and sees the blood on the upper part of the doorway and on the two
doorposts, Jehovah will certainly pass over the entrance, and he will not allow
the plague of death to enter into your houses.
(Exodus 12:8-13) “‘They must eat the meat on this night. They should roast it over the
fire and eat it along with unleavened bread and bitter greens. 9 Do
not eat any of it raw or boiled, cooked in water, but roast it over the fire,
its head together with its shanks and its inner parts. 10 You
must not save any of it until morning, but any of it left over until morning
you should burn with fire. 11 And this is how you should
eat it, with your belt fastened, sandals on your feet, and your staff in your
hand; and you should eat it in a hurry. It is Jehovah’s Passover. 12 For
I will pass through the land of Egypt on this night and strike every firstborn in the
land of Egypt,
from man to beast; and I will execute judgment on all the gods of Egypt. I am
Jehovah. 13 The blood will serve as your sign on the
houses where you are; and I will see the blood and pass over you, and the
plague will not come on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt.
(Exodus 12:29-32) Then at midnight, Jehovah struck down every firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Phar′aoh
who was sitting on his throne to the firstborn of the captive who was in the
prison, and every firstborn of the animals. 30 Phar′aoh
got up that night along with all his servants and all the other Egyptians, and
there was a great outcry among the Egyptians, because there was not a house
where someone was not dead. 31 At once he called Moses
and Aaron by night and said: “Get up, get out from among my people, both you
and the other Israelites. Go and serve Jehovah, just as you have said. 32 Take
also your flocks and your herds and go, just as you have said. But you must
also bless me.”
Paragraph 6
(Exodus 12:14-17) “‘This day will serve as a memorial for you, and you must celebrate it
as a festival to Jehovah throughout your generations. As a lasting statute, you
should celebrate it. 15 Seven days you are to eat
unleavened bread. Yes, on the first day you are to remove the sourdough from
your houses, because anyone eating what is leavened from the first day down to
the seventh, that person must be cut off from Israel. 16 On
the first day you will hold a holy convention, and on the seventh day, another
holy convention. No work is to be done on these days. Only what every person
needs to eat, that alone may be prepared for you. 17 “‘You
must keep the Festival of Unleavened Bread, for on this very day, I will bring
your multitudes out of the land
of Egypt. And you must
keep this day throughout your generations as a lasting statute.
(Luke 22:1)
Now the Festival of the Unleavened Bread, which is called Passover, was getting
near.
(John 18:28)
Then they led Jesus from Ca′ia·phas to the governor’s residence. It was now
early in the morning. But they themselves did not enter into the governor’s
residence, so that they would not get defiled but could eat the Passover.
(John 19:14)
Now it was the day of Preparation of the Passover; it was about the sixth hour.
And he said to the Jews: “See! Your king!”
(2 Chronicles 8:13) He followed the daily routine and made offerings according to the
commandment of Moses for the Sabbaths, the new moons, and the appointed
festivals three times in the year—the Festival of Unleavened Bread, the
Festival of Weeks, and the Festival of Booths.
Paragraph 7
(Matthew 26:17-19) On the first day of the Unleavened Bread, the disciples came to Jesus,
saying: “Where do you want us to prepare for you to eat the Passover?” 18 He
said: “Go into the city to So-and-so and say to him, ‘The Teacher says: “My
appointed time is near; I will celebrate the Passover with my disciples at your
home.”’” 19 So the disciples did as Jesus instructed
them and prepared for the Passover.
Paragraph 8
(Exodus 12:5,
6) Your sheep should be a sound, one-year-old male. You may choose from
the young rams or from the goats. 6 You must care for it
until the 14th day of this month, and the whole congregation of the assembly of
Israel
must slaughter it at twilight.
Paragraph 9/10
(Exodus 12:6)
You must care for it until the 14th day of this month, and the whole
congregation of the assembly of Israel
must slaughter it at twilight.
Paragraph 11
(Luke 22:7, 8)
The first day of the Unleavened Bread now arrived, on which the Passover
sacrifice must be offered; 8 so Jesus sent Peter and
John, saying: “Go and get the Passover ready for us to eat.”
(Luke 22:14, 15) So when the hour came, he reclined at the table along with the
apostles. 15 And he said to them: “I have greatly
desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer;
(John 19:14)
Now it was the day of Preparation of the Passover; it was about the sixth hour.
And he said to the Jews: “See! Your king!”
(1 Corinthians 5:7) Clear away the old leaven so that you may be a new batch, inasmuch as
you are free from ferment. For, indeed, Christ our Passover lamb has been
sacrificed.
(1 Corinthians 11:23) For I received from the Lord what I also handed on to
you, that the Lord Jesus on the night on which he was going to be betrayed took
a loaf,
(Matthew 26:2)
“You know that two days from now the Passover takes place, and the Son of man
will be handed over to be executed on the stake.”
(Leviticus 23:5-7) In the first month, on the 14th day of the month, at twilight is the
Passover to Jehovah. 6 “‘On the 15th day of this month
is the Festival of Unleavened Bread to Jehovah. Seven days you should eat unleavened
bread. 7 On the first day, you will observe a holy
convention. You should not do any hard work.
(Luke 23:54)
Now it was the day of Preparation, and the Sabbath was about to begin.
*(John 19:31,
42) Since it was the day of Preparation, so that the bodies would not
remain on the torture stakes on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath day was a great
one), the Jews asked Pilate to have the legs broken and the bodies taken away. 42
Because it was the day of Preparation of the Jews and the tomb was nearby, they
laid Jesus there.
Paragraph 12
(Exodus
12:24-27) “You must observe this event as a lasting regulation
for you and your sons. 25 And when you come into the
land that Jehovah will give you just as he has stated, you must keep this
observance. 26 And when your sons ask you, ‘What does
this observance mean to you?’ 27 you must say, ‘It is
the sacrifice of the Passover to Jehovah, who passed over the houses of the
Israelites in Egypt
when he plagued the Egyptians, but he spared our houses.’” Then the people
bowed low and prostrated themselves.
(Deuteronomy 6:20-23) “In the future, when your son asks you, ‘What is the
meaning of the reminders, the regulations, and the judicial decisions that
Jehovah our God has commanded you?’ 21 then you will say
to your son, ‘We became slaves to Phar′aoh in Egypt,
but Jehovah brought us out of Egypt
with a mighty hand. 22 So before our eyes Jehovah kept
sending signs and miracles, great and devastating, upon Egypt, upon
Phar′aoh, and upon all his household. 23 And he brought
us out from there in order to bring us here to give us the land about which he
had sworn to our forefathers.
(Exodus 12:14)
“‘This day will serve as a memorial for you, and you must celebrate it as a
festival to Jehovah throughout your generations. As a lasting statute, you
should celebrate it.
Paragraph 14
(Psalm 27:11)
Instruct me in your way, O Jehovah, Lead me in the path of uprightness because
of my foes.
(Isaiah 12:2)
Look! God is my salvation. I will trust and feel no dread; For Jah Jehovah is
my strength and my might, And he has become my salvation.”
Paragraph 15
(Exodus 13:14, 21, 22) “In case your son should ask you later on, ‘What does
this mean?’ then you should say to him, ‘With a mighty hand Jehovah brought us
out of Egypt,
from the house of slavery. 21 Now Jehovah was going ahead of
them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead them along the way, and by night in a
pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day and by night.
22 The pillar of cloud would not move away from before
the people during the day, nor the pillar of fire at night.
(Exodus 15:1, 2) At that time Moses and the Israelites sang this song to Jehovah: “Let
me sing to Jehovah, for he has become highly exalted. The horse and its rider
he has hurled into the sea. 2 My strength and my
might is Jah, since he has become my salvation. This is my God, and I will
praise him; my father’s God, and I will exalt him.
(Psalm 136:11-15) He brought Israel
out from their midst, For his loyal love endures forever, 12 With
a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, For his loyal love endures forever. 13 He
split the Red Sea in two, For his loyal love
endures forever. 14 He caused Israel to pass through the middle
of it, For his loyal love endures forever. 15 He shook
off Phar′aoh and his army into the Red Sea,
For his loyal love endures forever.
Paragraph 16
(Acts 7:30-36)
“After 40 years had passed, an angel appeared to him in the wilderness of Mount Si′nai
in the flame of a burning thornbush. 31 When Moses saw
it, he was amazed at the sight. But as he was approaching to investigate,
Jehovah’s voice was heard: 32 ‘I am the God of your
forefathers, the God of Abraham and of Isaac and of Jacob.’ Moses started
trembling and did not dare to investigate further. 33 Jehovah
said to him: ‘Remove the sandals from your feet, for the place where you are
standing is holy ground. 34 I have certainly seen the oppression
of my people who are in Egypt,
and I have heard their groaning, and I have come down to rescue them. Now come,
I will send you off to Egypt.’
35 This same Moses whom they had disowned, saying: ‘Who
appointed you ruler and judge?’ is the very one God sent as both ruler and
deliverer by means of the angel who appeared to him in the thornbush. 36 This
man led them out, performing wonders and signs in Egypt
and at the Red Sea and in the wilderness for
40 years.
(Daniel 3:16-18) Sha′drach, Me′shach, and A·bed′ne·go answered the king: “O
Neb·u·chad·nez′zar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. 17 If
it must be, our God whom we serve is able to rescue us from the burning fiery
furnace, O king, and to rescue us from your hand. 18 But
even if he does not, let it be known to you, O king, that we will not serve
your gods or worship the image of gold that you have set up.”
(Daniel 3:26-28) Neb·u·chad·nez′zar
approached the door of the burning fiery furnace and said: “Sha′drach, Me′shach,
and A·bed′ne·go, you servants of the Most High God, step out and come here!”
Sha′drach, Me′shach, and A·bed′ne·go stepped out from the midst of the fire. 27 And
the satraps, prefects, governors, and the high officials of the king who were
assembled there saw that the fire had had no effect on the bodies of these men;
not a hair of their heads had been singed, their cloaks looked no different,
and there was not even the smell of fire on them. 28 Neb·u·chad·nez′zar then
declared: “Praised be the God of Sha′drach, Me′shach, and A·bed′ne·go, who sent
his angel and rescued his servants. They trusted in him and went against the
command of the king and were willing to die rather than serve or worship any
god except their own God.
(1
Thessalonians 1:9, 10) For they themselves keep reporting about our first
contact with you and how you turned to God from your idols to slave for a
living and true God, 10 and to wait for his Son from the
heavens, whom he raised up from the dead, namely, Jesus, who rescues us from
the wrath that is coming.
Paragraph 17
(Romans 10:4)
For Christ is the end of the Law, so that everyone exercising faith may have
righteousness.
(Colossians 2:13-16) Furthermore, though you were dead in your trespasses and in the
uncircumcised state of your flesh, God made you alive together with him. He
kindly forgave us all our trespasses 14 and erased the
handwritten document that consisted of decrees and was in opposition to us. He
has taken it out of the way by nailing it to the torture stake. 15 He
has stripped the governments and the authorities bare and has publicly exhibited
them as conquered, leading them in a triumphal procession by means of it. 16 Therefore,
do not let anyone judge you about what you eat and drink or about the
observance of a festival or of the new moon or of a sabbath.
Paragraph 18
(Hebrews 12:23, 24) in general assembly, and the congregation of the firstborn who have
been enrolled in the heavens, and God the Judge of all, and the spiritual lives
of righteous ones who have been made perfect, 24 and
Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and the sprinkled blood, which speaks in
a better way than Abel’s blood.
(Ephesians 1:7)
By means of him we have the release by ransom through the blood of that one,
yes, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his
undeserved kindness.
Paragraph 19
(Exodus 12:46)
In one house it is to be eaten. You must not take any of the meat outside of
the house, and you must not break any of its bones.
(Numbers 9:11, 12) They should prepare it in the second month, on the 14th day at
twilight. They should eat it together with unleavened bread and bitter greens. 12 They
must not let any of it remain until morning, and they should not break any bone
in it. They should prepare it according to every statute regarding the Passover.
(John 1:29)
The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and he said: “See, the Lamb of God
who takes away the sin of the world!
(John 19:31-34)
Since it was the day of Preparation, so that the bodies would not remain on the
torture stakes on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath day was a great one), the Jews
asked Pilate to have the legs broken and the bodies taken away. 32 So
the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first man and those of the other
man who was on a stake alongside him. 33 But on coming
to Jesus, they saw that he was already dead, so they did not break his legs. 34 But
one of the soldiers jabbed his side with a spear, and immediately blood and
water came out.
(Hebrews 10:1)
For since the Law has a shadow of the good things to come, but not the very
substance of the things, it can never, by the same sacrifices that are continually
offered year after year, make those who approach perfect.
(Psalm 34:20)
He is guarding all his bones; Not one of them has been broken.
Paragraph 20
(Mark 14:22-25)
And as they continued eating, he took a loaf, said a blessing, broke it, and
gave it to them, saying: “Take it; this means my body.” 23 And
taking a cup, he offered thanks and gave it to them, and they all drank out of
it. 24 And he said to them: “This means my ‘blood of the
covenant,’ which is to be poured out in behalf of many. 25 Truly
I say to you, I will by no means drink anymore of the product of the vine until
that day when I drink it new in the Kingdom of God.”
Paragraph 21
(2 Timothy 3:16) All Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for
reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness,
What Part of the Day?
(Deuteronomy 16:6) But it should be done at the place that Jehovah your
God chooses to have his name reside. You should sacrifice the Passover offering
in the evening as soon as the sun sets, at the appointed time of your coming
out of Egypt.
(Exodus 30:8) Also, when Aaron lights the lamps at twilight, he
will burn the incense. It is a regular incense offering before Jehovah
throughout your generations.
(Numbers 9:3-5, 11) On the 14th day of this month at twilight, you should
prepare it at its appointed time. According to all its statutes and all its set
procedures, you should prepare it.” 4 So Moses told the
Israelites to prepare the Passover sacrifice. 5 Then
they prepared the Passover sacrifice in the first month, on the 14th day of the
month at twilight, in the wilderness of Si′nai. According to all that Jehovah
had commanded Moses, so the Israelites did. 11 They should prepare
it in the second month, on the 14th day at twilight. They should eat it
together with unleavened bread and bitter greens.
